Qingdao suffers sixth straight loss in CBA (updated)

ZHUJI, China, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Qingdao Eagles lost to powerhouses Liaoning Flying Leopards 112-94 in the 28th round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Sunday, extending their losing streak to six.

"We are in a difficult period, as several players are injured. We have to face these difficulties and I hope the young men can gain confidence," said Wu Qinglong, Qingdao coach.

Led by former NBA player O.J. Mayo, Liaoning launched a 17-0 run in the second quarter to enlarge their lead to 22 points.

Guard Guo Ailun scored 11 points in the third quarter to help the Flying Leopards expand the advantage to 28 points before the last period.

Qingdao fought back hard in the last quarter, but very little time remained for them to complete the comeback.

"Our young men did an excellent job today, as they cherished every second on the court," said Yang Ming, coach of Liaoning.

Guo finished with 26 points, Mayo had 17 points and nine rebounds, and Wu Changze contributed 12 points.
