MAPUTO, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Mozambican Defense and Security Forces (FDS) have driven a group of armed men out of the Matemo Island in the offshore district Ibo, northern province of Cabo Delgado, the national radio RM reported on Monday.

According to the report, the information was announced on Sunday by the general commander of the Mozambican police, Bernardino Rafael, on his visit to Matemo.

"Thank you for telling us where they were. If we were able to attack and to shell them, it's because the public told us," the report quoted Rafael as saying.

"The FDS can only do a good job when the public collaborates, by denouncing the location of the enemies," said Rafael.

"As for now the forces has made the searches and we are sure that the terrorists have left and the order is restored to the island," the commander added, while urging people not to join the ranks of the terrorists. Enditem
