Tokyo stocks open lower on profit-taking after Nikkei's 30-year high

TOKYO, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Tuesday as following the benchmark Nikkei stock index closing at a more than 30-year high late last week, investors opted to secure profits.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 99.73 points, or 0.35 percent, from Friday to 28,039.30.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 5.28 points, or 0.28 percent, at 1,849.66.

Pulp and paper, nonferrous metal and securities house-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
