6.5-magnitude quake hits northern Mongolia

ULAN BATOR, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the northern Mongolian province of Khuvsgul early Tuesday, according to the country's Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics.

The quake occurred about 30 km southwest of Khankh soum (administrative subdivision) of the province at around 5:30 a.m. local time (2130 GMT Monday), the institute said in a statement.

The strong quake was felt in different areas of the country, including the capital city Ulan Bator and provinces of Khuvsgul, Bulgan and Selenge.

The quake caused property damage, but no casualties have been reported yet, according to local media. Enditem
