SKOPJE, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- North Macedonia's Health Minister Venko Filipce said on Thursday that the pressure on the country's health system has decreased significantly, local media reported.

The minister said the country's epidemiological situation is stable. With regard to the new variant of COVID-19 widely spread in the United Kingdom, Filipce stressed this new type of coronavirus strain is not present in the country.

To date, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in North Macedonia has risen to 87,590, with 68,695 recoveries and 2,657 deaths.

Meanwhile, the minister said that all the COVID-19 vaccines that will arrive in North Macedonia are safe and certified.

Authorities in North Macedonia have reached an agreement with the company Pfizer to receive 800,000 doses of its vaccine starting from February.

"The first doses of vaccines are expected to arrive in February through a direct agreement with the company Pfizer, as well as the COVAX mechanism," Filipce said. COVAX is an international initiative co-led by the World Health Organization and partners to ensure equitable global access to COVID-19 vaccines.

To bring life back to normal, countries such as Britain, China, Germany, Russia and the United States have been racing against time to develop coronavirus vaccines. Enditem
