TOKYO, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 on Friday struck off Japan's Mie Prefecture, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The temblor occurred at around 10:39 p.m. local time, with its epicenter at a latitude of 33.7 degrees north and a longitude of 137.3 degrees east, and at depth of 390 km.
The quake logged 2 in some parts of Mie Prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.
