NEW DELHI, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- At least 13 people were killed and 18 others injured, some of them critically, after several vehicles collided in India's eastern state of West Bengal early Wednesday, police said.
The accident took place in Dhupguri city of Jalpaiguri district, about 645 km north of Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal.
Police said the deadly accident was caused due to the low visibility in the area.
"There was a collision between the vehicles due to low visibility in the area that led to an accident killing 13 and injuring 18 others," a police official said. "First a vehicle collided head-on with a truck loaded with boulders, then the truck driver lost control and hit two other vehicles."
According to police, the truck overturned and the boulders fell on the road and upon other vehicles.
"In all four vehicles were involved," the police official said.
The injured have been removed to hospitals, where the condition of some was stated to be critical. Enditem
