NEW DELHI, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,639,684 on Saturday as 14,256 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry.
According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 153,184 with 152 new deaths.
There are still 185,662 active cases in the country, while 10,300,838 people have been discharged from hospitals after medical treatment. Wednesday was the first day in nearly seven months when the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country fell below the 200,000-mark.
The nationwide vaccination drive was kicked off last Saturday and so far over 1.3 million people have been vaccinated across the country.
Meanwhile, the federal government has ramped up COVID-19 testing facilities across the country, as over 190 million tests have been conducted.
A total of 190,985,119 tests were conducted till Friday, out of which 837,095 tests were conducted on Friday alone, said the latest data issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Saturday.
The national capital New Delhi, one of the most affected places in the country, has been witnessing comparatively a lesser number of cases over the past several months as 266 new cases and seven deaths were registered in the national capital through Friday.
So far as many as 10,789 people have died in the national capital due to COVID-19, confirmed Delhi's health department. Enditem
