Friedrich celebrates 50th World Cup victory in 4-man Bob

BERLIN, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Olympic and World champion Francesco Friedrich celebrated his 50th career victory at the IBSF World Cup in Konigssee, Germany on Sunday, remaining unbeaten in the 4-man bobsleigh this season.

With Thorsten Margis, Martin Grothkopp and Alexander Schueller as his pusher crew, Friedrich finished in 1:37.45 on home soil, 0.39 seconds ahead of second-placed Austria's Maier Benjamin with Danut Moldovan, Markus Sammer and Sascha Stepan.

Fellow German Johannes Lochner, 4-man bobsleigh World Champion of 2017, came in third with Florian Bauer, Christopher Weber and Christian Rasp in 1:37.97.

Friedrich also dominated the 2-man bobsleigh event on Saturday, finishing in 1:38.69 with push athlete Margis, 0.2 seconds ahead of his team-mates Johannes Lochner and Eric Franke in second place.

In the 2-woman bobsleigh, pilot Kim Kalicki of Germany, together with Ann-Christin Strack, celebrated her first victory in the World Cup, while her compatriot and defending champion Stephanie Schneider finished second with Tamara Seer.

German athletes also topped the podium in the men's and women's skeleton on Friday in Konigssee, as Alexander Gassner claimed his second World Cup title of the 2020/21 season, while defending champion Jacqueline Loelling took her first win of the season. Enditem
