TASHKENT, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan has exported textile products worth 1.9 billion U.S. dollars to 70 countries in 2020, an increase of 295 million dollars compared with 2019, the Uzbek State Statistics Committee said Wednesday.

The largest part of Uzbek textile goods was exported to Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, it said.

Uzbekistan, one of the world's leading cotton exporters, has been taking serious steps in recent years to develop its textile industry, producing value-added products rather than exporting raw cotton.

The Uzbek government is planning to reprocess the entire cotton yarn produced in the country by 2025 and thus increase exports of textile products worth up to 7 billion dollars.

Earlier this month, the statistics committee said that Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover amounted to 36.3 billion dollars in 2020, down 13.1 percent from 2019. Enditem
