ZHUJI, China, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Guangdong Southern Tigers crushed the Shanghai Sharks 146-120 for their eight-game winning streak in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Wednesday.

Guangdong's Marshon Brooks grabbed a game-high 44 points and four rebounds, while his fellow Sonny Weems contributed 28 points. Jimmer Fredette pocketed 34 points for Shanghai.

At the beginning of the game, Shanghai delivered a 15-10 run, but Guangdong soon tied the score 28-28 after Brooks and Hu Mingxuan were put on the court. The twin towers helped Guangdong notch 14 points in three minutes to take a 42-35 lead.

Though Huang Xu's two 3-pointers cut the deficit to 51-48 for Shanghai in the second quarter, Brooks's prowess enlarged the gap to double digits again, whose 3-pointer ended the first half with 74-59.

After the interval, Guangdong launched a more aggressive attack to see the margin rise to 20 points until Fredette stood out in the final period to save Shanghai. After Shanghai came from behind to 115-110, Guangdong called a time-out for adjustment, which turned out to be effective as they later snatched 21 points to seal the victory.

"I think all the players paid much attention to this game. Generally, we did well in attack, but we still had problems in defense, especially young players. I hope they can improve in the coming games," said Guangdong head coach Du Feng. Enditem
