Before she left her hometown in 2008, Wang's parents gave her a family photo, which she has carried with her ever since then.

Wang's mother, for some reason, was not able to attend her wedding when she got married in Jiangxi in 2013, and the mother's absence from the family photo at the wedding became a lasting regret for both of them.

Upon the birth of her second child, Wang looked forward to reunion with her parents when they would be able to take another family photo. However, like many of her colleagues, Wang has not been granted her wish due to her busy work schedule, compounded with the COVID-19 pandemic since early last year.

Wang's first child, a six-year-old girl, seemed to know her mother very well. With naive strokes of her brush, she drew a picture of her mother's wish - a fictional yet joyful family photo of her grandparents from Shaanxi, her parents, and her younger sister.

There are too many Chinese families like that of Wang, where some members are out there to shoulder social responsibility with their loved ones left behind. Wang believes that she would have a family photo for real sooner or later, as long as she holds to it.
