German shares almost unchanged at start of trading on Thursday

BERLIN, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- German stocks were almost unchanged at the start of trading on Thursday, with the benchmark DAX index growing by 38.31 points, or 0.27 percent, opening at 13,971.94 points.

The biggest winner among Germany's 30 largest listed companies at the start of trading was pharmaceutical giant Bayer, increasing by 5.38 percent, followed by Deutsche Bank with 3.44 percent, and chemical and automotive supplier Continental with 1.56 percent.

On Thursday, Deutsche Bank announced net profit of 624 million euros (748 million U.S. dollars) in its fiscal year 2020, following five successive years of losses. Deutsche Bank built "firm foundations for sustainable profitability" to continue the positive trend.

Shares of Siemens fell by 1.96 percent. The German technology giant was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Thursday.

The yield on German 10-year bonds went up 0.004 percentage points to minus 0.464 percent, and the euro was trading almost unchanged at 1.2036 dollars, decreasing by 0.01 percent. Enditem
