SHANGHAI, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- More than 200 exhibitors will attend the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2021 to be held in the Chinese metropolis from Feb. 23 to 25, the event's organizer has said.

The GSMA, the event's organizer, said nearly 50 international exhibitors from the mobile industry, including world's leading enterprises like Ericsson, Qualcomm and Nokia will participate in the event.

The MWC Shanghai 2021 will be GSMA's first physical exhibition worldwide since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year. The 2020 edition of the Shanghai event was cancelled over infection concerns.

This year's event will feature more than 40 keynote speeches and various conferences. About 80 exhibitors will showcase their latest products in fields including millimeter wave, 5G messaging, Internet of Things and blockchain, according to the GSMA.

In addition to in-person activities, a virtual platform will be launched during the event.

"With very effective epidemic prevention measures and a very strong mobile ecosystem, China is currently the only place in the world that can host the MWC," said Sihan Bo Chen, Head of Greater China for GSMA.

MWC events are held annually in Barcelona, Los Angeles and Shanghai. Previously, Barcelona has always been the starting point of annual activities and also an important platform for the world premiere of new products in the mobile industry.

Chen said that since the MWC starts the annual events in Shanghai this year, some enterprises will also choose to launch new products at the congress.

"We believe this congress will help strengthen the confidence of the global industry," she added. Enditem
