Blast kills 4 in S. Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Four security personnel were killed as an explosive-laden vehicle went off in Argandab district of southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province on Thursday, a local official said Friday.

The official said on condition of anonymity that the militants detonated an explosive-borne military vehicle next to a security checkpoint in Baber village of Arghandab district on Thursday evening, killing four security personnel and injuring six others.

Another official who declined to be named also confirmed the deadly blast, saying that the blast took place at 3:15 a.m. local time Friday on a checkpoint in Arghandab district, killing six policemen and injuring seven others.

Kandahar has been the scene of increasing militancy over the past couple of years. Enditem
