UNITED NATIONS, March 2 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday expressed the hope for calm in Ecuador after the results of general elections were announced, said his spokesman.
Guterres welcomed the holding of peaceful general elections on Feb. 7 and took note of the announcement of the official results by the National Electoral Council on Feb. 21, said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman, in a statement.
The secretary-general trusts that the Electoral Disputes Tribunal will address any complaints promptly and diligently. He calls on all stakeholders to act responsibly and with respect for the institutional and legal frameworks during the period leading up to the holding of the presidential run-off election on April 11, said the statement.
