BUENOS AIRES, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Peruvian defender Carlos Zambrano scored his first goal of the season to earn reigning champions Boca Juniors a 1-1 draw at Independiente in Argentina's Primera Division on Sunday.
Gaston Togni gave the hosts a 25th-minute lead by nodding in from close range after a Nicolas Messiniti cut-back from the right byline.
Zambrano, a veteran of 52 caps for Peru's national team, equalized with a 55th-minute header following a Mauro Zarate corner.
Independiente remain second in the Group B standings, three points behind leaders Velez Sarsfield. Boca, meanwhile, have won just two of their first seven matches and are currently sixth in the 13-team group.
Elsewhere on Sunday, River Plate were held to a goalless home draw by Racing Club, Velez Sarsfield drew 1-1 at Defensa y Justicia and Talleres Cordoba were held to a 1-1 home draw by Talleres Cordoba. Enditem
