BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.6 percent, at 3,416.72 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.55 percent higher at 13,738 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 654 billion yuan (about 100.06 billion U.S. dollars), down from 671.4 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to catering, tourism and aesthetic medicine saw strong performances, while those related to electricity and farming led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.24 percent to close at 2,804.41 points. Enditem
