LONDON, April 14 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.71 percent, or 49.09 points, to close at 6,939.58 points.
Glencore, an Anglo-Swiss multinational commodity trading and mining company, soared 5.44 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Antofagasta and BP increased by 4.46 percent and 3.39 percent, respectively.
Tesco, a British multinational groceries and general merchandise retailer, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 2.02 percent.
