BRASILIA, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Brazil has distributed more than 50 million doses of vaccine against COVID-19 throughout the country since the start of the national immunization campaign on Jan. 18, the Ministry of Health said on Thursday.
In a statement, it reported that over 6.3 million doses have been sent to all Brazilian states and the Federal District throughout this week, bringing the total to 53.9 million doses.
Part of the lot is destined for the first dose for people between 60 and 69 years old, frontline health personnel and security and rescue forces, as well as the Armed Forces, according to the Secretariat of Health Surveillance.
It will also go for a second dose to health workers, people between 65 and 69 years old, in addition to 100,000 residents of the state of Amazonas.
To date, Brazil's national inoculation plan has used the CoronaVac vaccine from the Chinese laboratory Sinovac, produced with the Butantan Institute of Sao Paulo, as well as the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, produced with the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation of Rio de Janeiro.
More than 31.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to data from the health ministry.
As of Wednesday, Brazil had 13.67 million accumulated COVID-19 cases and 361,884 deaths from the disease. Enditem
