XINING, China, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The 2021 National Curling Elite Championship kicked off on Saturday at the Duoba National Highland Physical Training Base in northwestern China's Qinghai Province.

According to Gesang Cering, head of Qinghai's sport bureau, the competition is the first high-standard national curling event held under regular epidemic prevention and control this year.

During the five-day competition, 24 teams including China's two national teams will battle in three categories - men's team, women's team and mixed doubles.

"Since 2016, Qinghai has held the International Curling Elite four times at the Duoba National Highland Sports Training Base, and the game has effectively promoted the popularization of ice and snow sports on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau," said Gesang Cering. Enditem
