MEXICO CITY, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Cruz Azul and Puebla earned places in the Liga MX semifinals by beating Atlas and Toluca in their quarterfinals on Saturday.

Puebla secured a 1-0 home win over Atlas courtesy of a 70th-minute own goal from Anderson Santamaria.

The result levelled the tie 1-1 on aggregate but Nicolas Larcamon's men progressed by virtue of having a better regular season record.

Cruz Azul won 3-1 at home to Toluca after goals from Bryan Angulo, Jonathan Rodriguez and Santiago Jimenez. Alexis Canelo was on target for the visitors. It meant Cruz Azul prevailed 4-3 on aggregate.

"I want to thank and congratulate the efforts of the boys," Cruz Azul's Peruvian boss Juan Reynoso told reporters. "It was not an easy tie but our players took the game with their hearts and that doesn't surprise me because it's one of our characteristics."

In Sunday's remaining quarterfinals, Monterrey host Santos Laguna and Pachuca visit Club America. Enditem
