HONG KONG, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong has seen zero local infection of COVID-19 for three consecutive days.

Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported one new confirmed case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, which was imported, taking the total tally to 11,827.

According to the CHP, the new infection involved a 28-year-old man who arrived from India.

A total of 36 cases have been reported in the past 14 days, including eight local cases. Of these local cases, one had an unknown infection source, the CHP said.

Chui Tak-yi, Under Secretary for Food and Health of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, told a press briefing that about 1,193,600 people have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Hong Kong, accounting for 18.2 percent of the population aged 16 or above.

The above figure was, however, way below the level of achieving herd immunity, he said, urging the public to take the vaccine as soon as possible.

Of some 2,890 cases of suspected adverse events following the vaccination reported in Hong Kong so far, most were minor ones, he said, adding that there was no evidence that vaccination increased the risk of death or miscarriage for recipients.

Hong Kong launched a COVID-19 vaccination drive on Feb. 26. Official data showed about 2,010,300 vaccine doses had been administered in Hong Kong as of Tuesday, with about 816,700 people fully vaccinated against the pandemic. Enditem
