FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The police have discovered 5 kg of heroin from a car and arrested four commuters on the charge of smuggling the contraband in Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province, provincial police spokesman Sanahullah Rohani said Tuesday.
According to the official, four people, including two men and two women who were attempting to smuggle the heroin from Kasham district to the neighboring Takhar province onward to Kabul, were arrested, and the contraband has been seized.
All the alleged drug smugglers are under investigation, the official added.
Many farmers in militancy-hit Afghanistan cultivate poppy and hashish, but the government is determined to check poppy products and drug smuggling, police said. Enditem
