BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 2 (Xinhua) -- The Brunei government has issued updates on the Exit-Travel Application Guidelines, requiring outbound travelers to obtain mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations starting from August 1, 2021.

The additional condition applies to citizens and residents working abroad, transport operators, foreign workers returning to their country of origin for mandatory contract leave and coming back to Brunei (on a valid employment pass or dependent's pass), and anyone exiting the country for business and other essential travels, the country's Prime Minister's Office (PMO) was quoted as saying by local daily the Borneo Bulletin on Wednesday.

The PMO said that outbound travelers' exit-travel applications will not be granted automatically, even after receiving the mandatory vaccination, as every exit-travel application is subject to evaluation and approval from the PMO.

Meanwhile, inbound travelers returning to Brunei from foreign airports will still be required to undergo mandatory self-isolation at hotel accommodation for a certain period, as determined by the Ministry of Health's risk assessment.

Brunei reported no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, maintaining the total tally at 244.

There are 10 active cases being treated and monitored at the National Isolation Center, who are all in a stable condition.

There have been three deaths and 231 recoveries from the pandemic in Brunei. Enditem
