Turkey reports 7,181 new COVID-19 cases, 5,263,697 in total

ANKARA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Turkey on Wednesday confirmed 7,181 new COVID-19 cases, including 586 symptomatic patients, as the total number of cases in the country reached 5,263,697, according to its health ministry.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 112 to 47,768, while the total recoveries climbed to 5,131,453 after 7,372 more people recovered in the last 24 hours.

The rate of pneumonia in COVID-19 patients stands at 2.8 percent and the number of seriously ill patients is 1,213 in the country, said the ministry.

A total of 224,150 tests were conducted over the past day, raising Turkey's overall number of tests to 54,586,941.

Turkey started mass vaccination for COVID-19 on Jan. 14 after the authorities approved the emergency use of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine. More than 16,841,000 people have been vaccinated so far.
