HONG KONG, June 11 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Friday elaborated on the bright prospect of Hong Kong's development and invited companies in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries to seize the opportunities here and strengthen business ties.
Addressing over 200 participants from the ASEAN business community during an online dialogue, Chief Secretary for Administration Matthew Cheung presented Hong Kong's strong fundamentals and unique advantages under "one country, two systems."
Hong Kong has been put back on track and its long-term stability and prosperity are ensured with the implementation of the national security law in the HKSAR and the improvements to its electoral system, he said.
When detailing Hong Kong's potential, Cheung said the national five-year plan supports Hong Kong to develop itself into an international innovation and technology hub, an aviation hub, an East-meets-West center for cultural exchanges, and a regional intellectual property trading hub.
Under the country's "dual circulation" development strategy, Cheung believes Hong Kong can also become an active participant in the country's domestic circulation and a facilitator in international circulation.
Investors from ASEAN will be able to benefit from the development potential of Hong Kong, he told the webinar.
Hong Kong and ASEAN have forged close economic relations over the past years. ASEAN has been Hong Kong's second-largest trading partner for 10 years in a row since 2010 and their free trade and investment agreements came into full force in February this year.
Cheung also said Hong Kong has a keen interest in joining the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) at the earliest appropriate juncture and predicted Hong Kong's accession will further deepen regional economic integration and cooperation. Enditem
