BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) has raised the possibility of going back to its usual home-and-away format in the upcoming 2021-22 season, its governing body announced on Friday.

The league's 14th shareholders meeting was held on Friday, and following a discussion and vote, participants have reached an agreement on attempting to bring the 2021-22 season back to the home-and-away format.

"In the premise of returning to the home-and-away format, a final plan will be confirmed out of previous schemes based on real scenarios for the next season's CBA league," read a statement from the league's governing body.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control concern, the CBA league has adopted a championship format since the resumption of the 2019-20 season before continuing it for the whole 2020-21 season.

In an attempt to adopt the home-and-away format, the 2021-22 season CBA league might feature only domestic players at first, and resume the employment of foreign players when circumstances allow.

The league's governing body will submit relevant plans to the association before waiting for its examination and approval.

A source from the CBA league told Xinhua that returning to the home-and-away format is a primary target for the next season.

Featuring only domestic players at the start is one of several plans laid out by the league, added the source.

"An all-domestic policy is only a transition program in for the short term. Despite various challenges, the CBA league has an unswerving objective of becoming an international and professional league," he said. Enditem
