BEIRUT, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's gross public debt increased by 4.4 percent to 97.3 billion U.S. dollars by the end of March 2021 compared with the same period of the previous year, Bank Audi reported on Monday.

Bank Audi's Lebanon Weekly Monitor said the country's domestic debt increased by 3.9 percent to 60.6 billion dollars by the end of March 2021 compared with the same period of 2020.

It added that Lebanon's external debt rose by 6 percent from the end of March 2020 to around 36.7 billion dollars by the first quarter this year.

The Lebanese government has so far failed to implement structural reform measures to reduce its yearly budget deficit and public debt amid its worst financial and economic crisis.

Lebanon is in dire need of an efficient cabinet capable of implementing reforms and unlocking billions of dollars of foreign aid from the international community. Enditem
