Bangladesh sees new daily record of 230 COVID-19 deaths, 11,874 cases

DHAKA, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh witnessed a double record on Sunday, registering 11,874 new COVID-19 cases and 230 related deaths in just 24 hours, according to figures from Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the newly reported fatalities, the death toll in the country has reached 16,419.

The country has seen an upsurge in COVID-19 infections for more than a month now, raising its total tally to 1,021,189 on Sunday.

The official data showed that 40,015 samples were tested across Bangladesh on Sunday.

The total number of recovered patients rose to 874,501 including 6,362 new recoveries reported on Sunday, said the DGHS.

According to the official data, the COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is currently 1.61 percent and recovery rate is 85.64 percent.

To curb the virus transmission, Bangladesh entered a strict one-week COVID-19 lockdown on July 1, which has subsequently been extended till July 14 and army personnel have been deployed to patrol alongside civilian forces to maintain law and order. Enditem
