BEIRUT, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Health Ministry on Tuesday reported 632 new COVID-19 infections, the highest daily rise in nearly three months.

The total coronavirus infections in Lebanon climbed to 551,789, while the death toll from the virus went up by one to 7,887, the ministry said.

It added that 750,232 people, or 15.7 percent of the Lebanese population, have been fully vaccinated since the rollout of the vaccination campaign in February.

Health authorities have warned that Lebanon is experiencing a new wave of infections triggered by the Delta coronavirus variant which appeared at the beginning of the month.

Lebanese doctors have expressed their concerns about the impact of the spread of the new variant on the health sector, which lacks the ability to deal with a surge in infections due to a medicine shortage. Enditem
