BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- A maglev bullet train that runs up to a speed of 600 kilometers per hour made its debut in China's Qingdao, CNN reported Wednesday.

The world's fastest train appears to be "floating" thanks to an electromagnetic force that sends it gliding above the tracks, hence being named "maglev," abbreviated from "magnetic levitation."

The train, developed by the state-owned China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), emits low levels of noise pollution and requires less maintenance than other high-speed trains, according to Liang Jianying, deputy general manager and chief engineer of CRRC Sifang. Enditem
