JERUSALEM, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Israeli basketball champions Maccabi Tel Aviv on Monday announced the appointment of former CBA player Doron Perkins as assistant coach.

The 38-year-old former guard thus returns to the Israeli Euroleague club, where he played between 2009-2011.

His European career also included Olympiacos Piraeus, with whom he won the Euroleague title in 2013, Besiktas, Cantu, Laboral Kutxa, and five other clubs.

Perkins played for Chinese club the Foshan Long Lions later in 2013, averaging 14.4 points and 6.8 assists in 32.6 minutes per game, in 14 games in total.

His career as a player ended in 2018, after one season at the South Korean club Goyang Orions.

As a coach, Perkins worked at the NBA club Brooklyn Nets and its G League team Long Island Nets.

He was responsible for scouting and player development and worked personally with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on their return from injury.

Perkins thanked Maccabi's Greek head coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos, adding that "it's amazing to have the opportunity to come back. The goal now is working hard and helping the team continue its success". Enditem
