HEFEI, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- In Bozhou City, east China's Anhui Province, there is a long and narrow tunnel stretching in a cross shape for over 8,000 meters. The tunnel was originally built as a military tunnel in the late Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD) by Cao Cao, a famed Chinese warlord.

In 1938, the tunnel was first discovered. By 1973, about 2,000 meters of the project had been excavated, of which 700 meters currently are open to the public.

The tunnel is one of the oldest and most well-preserved underground military facilities in China, listed as a major historical and cultural site protected at the national level.

There are many relics in the underground military tunnel which are of great significance to the study of ancient Chinese buildings.
