Zambia national women football team climbs in FIFA rankings after Olympic Games

LUSAKA, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Zambia national women's national football team has climbed 10 places in the latest FIFA world rankings following their performance at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Copper Queens have moved to 94 from 104 in the latest rankings, the team's highest-ever position.

At their maiden appearance at an Olympic Games, Zambia drew 4-4 with China, and lost 10-3 to the Netherlands and 1-0 to Brazil.

China-based team captain Barbra Banda also made history by becoming the first female African player to score two hat-tricks at the tournament.

The team's next focus is the Council of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) Women's Championship which will run from September 15 to 26.

The team has been placed in Group C alongside Namibia, Eswatini, and Uganda. Enditem
