SEOUL, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of information and communications technology (ICT) products hit a record high last year due to global demand recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, a government report showed Wednesday.
The ICT products shipment advanced 24 percent over the year to 227.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2021, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. It was the highest since relevant data began to be compiled in 1996.
Import in the ICT sector amounted to 135 billion dollars, sending the trade surplus to 92.6 billion dollars.
Semiconductor export jumped 28.4 percent to 128.7 billion dollars last year, and those for display panels and mobile phones increased in double digits to 24.7 billion dollars and 14 billion dollars respectively.
The ICT export to China, South Korea's biggest trading partner, advanced 23.8 percent over the year to 107.5 billion dollars in 2021, and those to the United States and the European Union gained in double figures to 28 billion dollars and 12.8 billion dollars respectively. ■
