JERUSALEM, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Ministry of Health on Monday reported 83,088 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 2,387,131.

This the highest daily figure since the coronavirus outbreak in Israel in late February 2020, according to the ministry.

About 8.9 percent of the new cases, or 7,379, have been infected with the virus at least the second time, and 3,462 of them were vaccinated with one dose or more.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the virus rose to 8,458, with 16 new fatalities added, while the number of patients in serious condition rose from 796 to 814, the highest figure since February 2021.

The number of active cases reached a new high of 531,430, while the positive rate of all daily COVID-19 tests in Israel hit a record 23.23 percent.
