UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Friday renewed the mandate of its committee monitoring implementation of a resolution that aims to prevent non-state actors from acquiring nuclear, biological and chemical weapons and their means of delivery.

Unanimously adopting resolution 2622 (2022) and acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, the council decided to extend, until Nov. 30 2022, the mandate of the committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004) with the continued assistance of its group of experts.

By the text, the council further decided that the committee should continue to conduct and complete the comprehensive review on the status of implementation of resolution 1540 (2004) and submit its conclusions to the council.

On April 28, 2004, the council unanimously adopted resolution 1540 which affirms that the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and their means of delivery constitutes a threat to international peace and security.
