BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Brunei recorded 2.64 billion Brunei dollars (1.95 billion U.S. dollars) in the total trade for December 2021, a 74.1 percent year-on-year increase.

The latest International Merchandise Trade Statistics released on Thursday by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics at the Ministry of Finance and Economy showed that Brunei's exports increased by 90.3 percent year on year to 1.52 billion Brunei dollars due largely to an increase in mineral fuel exports.

Mineral fuels saw a record 80.4 percent contribution to the total exports, with a value of 1.22 billion Brunei dollars.

Imports increased by 56 percent year on year to 1.12 billion Brunei dollars for December 2021.

The highest share of Brunei's exports in December went to Japan, at 25.5 percent, followed by Australia, at 18 percent, and China, at 15.2 percent. The largest export commodity for Japan and Australia was mineral fuels.

The highest share of imports in December was recorded with Russia, at 32.4 percent, followed by Malaysia's 27 percent and Australia's 10.2 percent. (1 Brunei dollar equals about 0.74 U.S. dollar)
