OUAGADOUGOU, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Twelve soldiers and 4 civilian army volunteers were killed Friday in an attack on a military detachment in northern Burkina Faso, said the army in a statement.
A complex attack targeted the Namissiguima military detachment (Sanmatenga Province, Centre-Nord region) around 5 a.m. The provisional toll shows 12 soldiers and 4 army volunteers were killed, as well as 21 soldiers wounded, said the statement.
Reinforcements have been deployed to secure the area.
Security in Burkina Faso has worsened since 2015, with terrorist attacks killing more than 1,000 people and displacing over 1 million others in the West African nation. ■
