Japan dominates women's freestyle at 2022 Asian Wrestling Championships

ULAN BATOR, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Japan dominated the women's freestyle events at the 2022 Asian Wrestling Championships, winning seven out of 10 gold medals in total.

Japan added four golds and a silver on the last day of the women's events after grabbing three golds and a silver on Thursday.

On Friday, Zhamila Bakbergenova of Kazakhstan stopped Japan from sweeping all the gold medals by taking the 72kg title. Sumire Niikura got the silver and Mongolian Enkh-Amar Davaanasan had the bronze.

In the 53kg category, Akari Fujinami beat Mongolian Batkhuyag Khulan to take the gold, and Shuldyz Eshimova of Kazakhstan got the bronze.

Tsugumi Sakurai claimed the 57kg freestyle gold, while the silver and bronze medals went to Indian Anshu Malik and Mongolian Khurelkhuu Bolortuya respectively.

In the 62kg class, Nonoka Ozaki beat Kyrgyzstani Aisuluu Tynybekova in the final, with the bronze medals shared by Mongolian Boldsaikhan Khongorzul and Indian Manisha Manisha.

Miwa Morikawa won the 65kg title, beating Indian Radhika Radhika in the final, while Mongolian Ulziisaikhan Purevsuren won the bronze.

The 35th Asian Wrestling Championships, which started on Tuesday, will conclude after men's freestyle events over the weekend.
