TAIPEI, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan has relaxed some COVID-19 response measures within a moderate limit, adjusting the requirement for wearing masks and resuming normal operation of public venues and transport.

Starting from Tuesday, motorbike drivers and bicycle riders are exempt from wearing masks but they need to carry masks just in case, said the island's disease monitoring agency in a statement.

Other situations applicable to the new protocol include exercising, working outside in open places, and taking solo or group photos, among others.

People are not required to wear masks when dining outside, but must wear masks when singing, the agency added.

Public places including supermarkets and bazaars no longer need to restrict the visitor flow, and passengers taking public transport can eat onboard, according to the agency.

The COVID-19 epidemic is waning on the island, with 26,943 local cases and 57 deaths newly reported on Tuesday, said the agency.
