Myanmar extends COVID-19 restrictions until end of June

YANGON, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has decided to extend COVID-19 preventive measures until June 30, according to the Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19.

The extension includes all COVID-19 restrictions that were set to expire on May 31, with the exception of those that will be gradually eased, the committee said late Tuesday.

This extension applies to all orders, announcements and directives issued by relevant government organizations and ministries in their efforts to curb the spread of the pandemic, it said.

Official data showed that Myanmar recorded 92 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 638,818 as of Tuesday.

The death toll from COVID-19 in the Southeast Asian country has reached 19,494 as of Tuesday, while 617,774 patients have recovered, it said.
