RABAT, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The 18th meeting of the Morocco-Spain Standing Joint Migratory Group was held Friday in the southern Moroccan city of Essaouira to discuss means to tackle the growing flows of illegal migration through the Moroccan-Spanish route.
Co-chaired by Khalid Zerouali, director of migration and border surveillance at the Moroccan Interior Ministry, and Consuelo Rumi, Spain's Secretary of State for Migration, this meeting dealt also with other issues relating to migration in its legal and illegal dimensions.
During this meeting, both sides lauded the bilateral relations in this area, stressing the need for joint action to reinforce this partnership.
In a statement to the press, Consuelo Rumi said that Morocco is making huge efforts to manage this scourge through tightening border control, crackdown on human trafficking networks and integration in the Moroccan society.
She stressed that Morocco is a strategic partner for Europe in terms of managing migratory inflows, adding that Spain and EU are determined to reinforce their support to Morocco's efforts in thwarting human trafficking networks.
