TRIPOLI, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Armed clashes broke out in south of the Libyan capital Tripoli on Tuesday morning, causing power blackout in the south and west of the country, according to a security source.
"The clashes erupted again in south of the capital since the early morning hours, particularly at the road leading to Tripoli airport and Mashroo al-Hadba in Abu Salim district," a source of the Interior Ministry told the Xinhua.
"Explosions could be heard in different parts of the capital," the source said.
The state-owned General Electricity Company said that electrical circuits 1-2 in southern Tripoli were damaged due to armed clashes, which disabled most power plants in western and southern Libya.
The UN Support Mission in Libya recently brokered a cease-fire agreement between warring parties in Tripoli, ending heavy clashes that killed 78 people and injured 210 others.
Tripoli recently witnessed violent clashes between government forces and the so-called Seventh Brigade militia from the city of Tarhuna, some 80 km southeast Tripoli.
