YAOUNDE, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Cameroonian President Paul Biya on Friday pledged to end a separatist conflict in English-speaking regions of the country.

Shortly after a five-day national dialogue closed in the capital, Yaounde, Biya tweeted: "Your rich and diverse contributions were very useful. Some of them inspired the recommendations made at the end of the dialogue."

"I can assure you that all of them will be considered attentively and diligently with a view to implementing them," he added.

According to the rapporteur of the talks, Felix Mbayu, participants recommended that the two English-speaking regions should be granted "special status" in a decentralised system of government in a bid to end the conflict.

According to the recommendations, conflict-affected regions will be reconstructed and developed and victims of the conflict be compensated. The education and judiciary systems will also be restructured to reflect the bilingual and multicultural nature of Cameroon.

President Biya on Thursday ordered the release of 333 anglophone detainees as a major move to ensure the success of the national dialogue.

On Friday evening, Biya announced that he had ordered prosecutions to be dropped against some jailed opposition leaders in a bid to promote an atmosphere of peace and fraternity, according a statement of the presidency.
