BRAZZAVILLE, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The Republic of the Congo has decided to close its borders, after the announcement of a new COVID-19 case in the country by Prime Minister Clement Mouamba on Saturday.

The patient is a 47-year-old Congolese who arrived in Pointe-Noire on March 15.

Given the fast spread of the pandemic, the government has decided to close all land, river, sea and air borders. Only cargo ships and flights are allowed to pass.

The government has toughened measures to combat the virus, including the suspension of all flights from COVID-19 high-risk countries and all mass sports competitions, since the country confirmed its first case on March 14.
