RABAT, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Moroccan police seized 4.85 tons of cannabis near the western city of Agadir, official radio reported on Monday.

The banned substance was concealed in a shipment of watermelon inside two pickup trucks, it said, adding that the operation occurred on Sunday night in the town of Ait Melloul near Agadir.

One person was arrested for suspected links to a criminal drug trafficking network, and many material were seized including an important sum of money, it added.

Despite efforts to crack down on cannabis cultivation during the past decade, Morocco remains one of the world's largest producers of the narcotic plant, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
