RABAT, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Morocco announced on Thursday that its navy has rescued in the Mediterranean 231 migrants all from sub-Saharan Africa.
The Moroccan Navy Coast Guard, on patrol in the Mediterranean, intercepted between Tuesday and Thursday makeshift boats, kayaks and jet skis with 231 migrants on board trying to reach the European shores, official news agency MAP quoted a military source as saying.
All the migrants were brought safe after receiving first aid, and handed over to the local authorities, the agency added.
Morocco has become a hub for African migrants seeking to reach Europe.
Thousands of migrants try to flee poverty and unrest in Africa each year through Morocco to Europe, either by land or by sea. Enditem
