ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- An armed attack in Ethiopia's Benishangul-Gumuz regional state located in the western part of the country has left 14 people including one foreign national dead, an Ethiopian official told local media on Friday.

Gashu Ugaz, Benishangul-Gumuz regional state peace building and security administration bureau head, said an armed attack on two transport vehicles travelling on the road earlier this week left 14 people including one foreign national dead, reported state media outlet Ethiopia News Agency.

Ugaz said another eight people who were injured in the attack are receiving medical treatment in nearby health stations, according to the agency.

Ugaz further said 14 attackers have been killed and two others arrested through a coordinated counter-attack operation by security forces.

Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State, located along the Ethiopia-Sudan border, hosts Ethiopia's largest development project - the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which is under construction on the Blue Nile River with a construction cost of close to 5 billion U.S. dollars. Enditem
